Toffee brand doubles production

A historic family-owned confectionery brand needed to increase production of their range of toffees to meet growing demand.

This historic brand had a packing line with speeds limited to 60 bags per minute, and to keep up with customer demand, they wanted to increase this to 90 bpm. As this speed could easily be surpassed by a number of models in PurPak’s range of VFFS packaging equipment, PurPak worked with the customer’s team to analyse how they could best achieve the maximum return on investment for their immediate and future needs – PurPak’s proposal was to aim higher and produce at 120ppm or more – meaning more than 100% increase in throughout per square foot.

Tool-less changeovers minimised downtime between many pack varieties, both with and without Euroslot, and Industry 4.0 connectivity features like predictive/preventative maintenance alerts, has allowed the customer to significantly improve uptime, whilst also reducing the need and cost of service engineering call outs thanks to PurPak’s advanced remote service support features.

Production has now doubled to 120 bpm, which has even allowed the customer to recover the costs of some unexpected raw material price increases, and the customer still has capacity to increase speeds and throughputs in the future.
